A case study
As the design partner for Amazon’s Hyderabad campus, in Gachibowli, we were eager to create magic. For this was to be their single largest campus building in the world!
The new workspace was designed to be more than just a campus. The theme we arrived upon was ‘The Portals of India’ – the India, which is immersed in heritage and culture, as well as the India that is making immense advances in technology. It reflects the many-layered story of India.
Weaving together this visual magic, are the impactful supergraphics and art installations dotted throughout the office. The graphics also tie together in a narrative that represents the multifaceted culture of India and the culture of Amazon.
A sequential journey into different aspects of India begins as you enter each floor, which is a portal into one of the many diverse aspects of India.
Being culturally diverse and distinct, a variety of art forms have evolved over the years. This combined with a bit of modernisation, creates graceful brand accents across the floor.
Architecture can inspire us as it has witnessed centuries in one form or another. We combined this with contemporary design to tell the brand strory which significantly enhances the look of the environment.
Movies in India are a common thread which connects diverse groups of people across borders with variety of subjects, languages, themes, stories and genres.
India is a land which has assimilated ancient knowledge and uses it in day to day life. Taking inspiration from this is the theme for the training floor which represents a beautiful ‘tree of knowledge’ made with books, setting a stage for an environment which inspires learning and collaboration.
The brand story cannot be complete without tapping on local markets - a potpourri of color, customs and culture. It is a place to soak in the local culture, tradition and customs of the city.
The famous Indian festivals are reasons different people come together to spread happiness and share good times. A kitchenette on this floor houses a delightful wall which celebrates the festival of colours - Holi.
Rabindranath Tagore once said “If God had so wished, he could have made all the Indians speak one language, the unity of India has been and shall always be a unity in diversity.” This representation of diversity is the true spirit of Amazon’s brand ethos.
